My name is Hadégnon Fantodji (Hadé). I am native of Benin and grew up in Côte d’Ivoire. I studied architecture at the Paris-la-Seine architecture school (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris), then at the architecture school of Laval University (Quebec). I am passionate about the visual arts.
I have been based in Benin since 2001. My professional activity oscillates between architecture, built environment education, practice and teaching of visual arts. My work as a visual artist is built around an ethnocultural approach through research and understanding of the aesthetics of traditional symbols or rituals, to create a conceptual interpretation.
The attached example represents the extreme hitting of a Sato choreography (Sato is a pair of drums and a traditional funeral rhythm). This representation is unique in that the observation point is from above - an unusual point of view -.
