Niyigena Marie Odile is a female Visual and performing artist from the land of 1000 hills-Rwanda. A
graduate from East African University Rwanda, Bachelor of Industrial and Fine art(Honors). I draw
from the environments that I have lived and experienced life in and about peace. Across multiple artistic
realms I diverse practice encompasses painting, pencil drawing, decorative craft, theatre, and poetry.
Renowned for gestural abstraction and got inspired by Jackson Pollock and mixed media artworks.
As the co-founder and Art Director of Imagery Visuals, a Rwandan visual art company, I passionately
advocates for the societal impact of visual arts for personal, social and even economic growth. Interplay
between different art forms and materials as a vital key to education and addressing conceptual challenges
in society.
I also believe that poetry is the orphan of silence, and visual arts serve as a lens for mixed feelings. In my
view, a compelling artwork unveils every facial expression and beautifies the world. My guiding
philosophy resonates through my art: "Listen to me"; "listen to you"; "heal me"; heal you;" "together we heal the
world".
This strong culture has attracted almost close to 60% of the Tourists especially festivals like "Kwita Izina" www.visitrwanda.com/kwita-izina/
Kwita Izina is modelled off a centuries old tradition in which Rwandans name their children in the presence of family and friends. In 2005, Rwanda began officially naming mountain gorillas in what has become a global celebration of nature. By giving a name to these majestic animals, we give them a value they undoubtedly deserve.
The ceremony is an opportunity to thank the communities that live around Volcanoes National Park, our research partners, vets and the dedicated conservationists, rangers and trackers who protect the gorillas. Over the last 19 years, 397 mountain gorillas have been named. Gorgeous Soulful Dances, Food, Art are exhibited and every one is excited to attend this; like this Art Piece.
