Ahwera Alex Masanga is a visual artist-painter from Eastern Uganda. He graduated from Nagenda International Academy of Art and Design with a Diploma in Fine Art. While growing up, Alex has lived in three different parts of the Uganda; East, West and Central. This multi heritage has contributed a great deal to his experience as an artist, his relationship with people and environment. It is against this backdrop that he draws inspiration for his art projects. As an artist, Alex is inspired by his heritage and the environment which has shaped him into the person he is. Motivated by social-spiritual, social-economic issues, and nature in general, he documents his engagement through drawings, illustrations, paintings, sculptures, prints and photographs with an aim to pass them onto the generation. Alex believes contemporary mistakes and achievements could be lessons for the next generation to make better choices. Alex experiments with different materials, techniques and styles. Currently, he is exploring other fields in the visual arts and design like wood curving and joinery, welding and all other fields of designs that help trigger his creativity. By making an image of nature, our ancestors believed they could capture its power. The first images of nature were most likely used to work magic: to provide protection against severe weather, for example, or conjure up strength and luck for hunting, or empower the female reproductive cycle. You may be struck by how lifelike the paintings are, and also by how intricate and abstract the artwork is. This means that two major styles of art, naturalism and abstraction, started about the same time, at the dawn of art! Did this piece of work, from an inspiration of living life in free form. And living life in freeform in my perception I believe its living life accepting everything that happens to you with a positive attitude, knowing that all happens for the good. Positive encounters give us motivation, and gives us an opportunity to enjoy our endurances, and the negative provides an opportunity to grow in character. Being an artist who documents my expriences through artifacts, expriences of spiritual boundage, social stigma, psychological trauma and sexual slavery I believe by sharing my experinces and how I over come them by learning how to live my life in free form, might help soneone else or generations to come, to know the value of living life in free form.
