My name is Adenike Maryam, and I am a Nigerian fashion designer. For my Radiant Ankara dress project, I drew inspiration from media sources like Pinterest. I began by sketching the design on my sketchpad, made some alterations, and then proceeded to draft the pattern and sew the dress. This design honors vibrant African heritage through the choice of fabric and pattern. Using bold, colorful Ankara (adire) fabric, the dress is a statement of cultural pride and modern elegance. Hand-cut and meticulously sewn, it features a fitted half bodice and a straight, draped skirt that accentuates movement. By incorporating traditional motifs with a modern silhouette, this project showcases the timeless beauty of Ankara, bridging tradition and modernity in fashion.
