Global Debt Crisis A Call for Initiative

some text

My name is Gideon Osei Sefah and I'm a freelance graphic designer and IT professional from Anum in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Visual storytelling has always been a passion of mine, and I'm excited to contribute to GITFIC's call for a #GlobalDebtInitiative. As someone steeped in the rich cultural traditions of West Africa, I wanted to bring that perspective to this project. The centerpiece is a globe wrapped in the trappings of international finance - currency, bills, and the complex web of debt instruments that have become entangled around the world. This metaphor is meant to convey the truly global reach and interconnectedness of the debt crisis. Surrounding the globe, I've depicted silhouetted figures labeled with terms like "loan," "credit," and "tax." It's a nod to how these macro-level economic policies and forces directly impact the lives of everyday people in my community and beyond. To ground this global narrative in a more localized context, I've incorporated architectural motifs and visual elements inspired by the vibrant urban landscapes of Ghana. Ultimately, I hope this piece helps to shine a light on the urgency of addressing the debt crisis, while also championing a more holistic, culturally-sensitive approach. As a designer rooted in the visual language of West Africa, I believe art and design have a powerful role to play in bridging the gap between international policymaking and grassroots, community-driven solutions. I'm honored to be a part of this important initiative, and I look forward to engaging with a global audience to hear their perspectives.
